Empathy in Leadership

Empathy is one of the most overlooked leadership strengths

What does empathy mean to you as a leader?

It is not about being soft. It is about understanding, connecting, and creating an environment where people feel seen and supported.

Great leaders share a few common traits. They are present, they listen, they support, and they lead with compassion and curiosity.

1. Be present

Engage with each person on your team.

What are their desires and concerns?

2. Listen

You do not have to agree.

Listen without judgment and acknowledge their perspective.

3. Support

Let your team know you are there for them.

Sometimes people need space to talk, sometimes they need help.

4. Lead with compassion

Everyone has different needs.

Take your team into consideration when making decisions.

5. Stay curious

Ask questions and get to know what each person is about.

You may uncover strengths and potential you did not see before.

Empathy builds trust. Trust builds results.

When people feel understood, they show up differently.

Which one of these do you naturally lead with, and which one could you lean into more?
