Leadership in Crisis

As most of the world knows, catastrophe struck Los Angeles, where I live.

Smoke clouds loomed nearby, making it impossible to ignore, even in areas considered safe. And at that point, it was still not over. Blue skies had been replaced by fire clouds, hazardous air, and haunting visuals of entire neighborhoods reduced to rubble.

When everything changes fast

In moments like this, people and businesses are left asking impossible questions.

Is my home still standing?

How will I survive?

Where will I go?

Those are not abstract questions. They are deeply human ones.

What leadership looks like under pressure

Our firefighters and emergency crews, reinforced by teams from Mexico and Canada, worked tirelessly and risked everything to protect others.

Watching how they support each other is a powerful reminder of what every workplace can learn from. Unity. Resilience. Focus. Trust.

To every firefighter and crew member, thank you for everything you do.

The contrast is real

What struck me most was the contrast between neighborhoods where skies had cleared and air quality had improved, and other parts of the city still living in uncertainty.

I was also reminded of communities like Asheville, where people were still dealing with the aftermath of disaster months later, leaning on each other and receiving help from around the country.

What we can still do

Reaching out, listening, and taking action, no matter how small, may not solve everything. But it can provide hope. It can create connection. It can light the way forward for someone who needs it.

Leadership is not only about strategy when times are smooth. Sometimes it is simply about being human, staying present, and helping where you can.
