Leadership Non-Negotiables

by Pia Jansson | Apr 25, 2024 | Leadership

My leadership journey started earlier than I realized.

Long before I thought about leadership as a formal role, I was often the one people turned to for guidance, perspective, or a voice in the room.

Over time, I saw the difference between leadership that builds trust and leadership that quietly damages people, culture, and results.

Acknowledge expertise

Leaders don’t build trust by taking other people’s wisdom and presenting it as their own.

They build trust by recognizing strengths, giving credit, asking for help when needed, and leveraging the expertise around them.

That creates a stronger team and a better business environment.

Go beyond ego

Leadership centered on personal image or ego misses the point.

Great leaders focus on what benefits the team, the clients, and the business as a whole.

That shift changes everything.

Lead with empathy

Fear, intimidation, and bullying have no place in real leadership.

The strongest leaders can listen without judgment, understand what’s actually happening, and guide people through challenges with steadiness and respect.

That doesn’t make them soft.

It makes them effective.

What I’ve learned

Across industries, countries, and roles, certain leadership truths keep repeating.

Integrity matters.

Self-awareness matters.

And the way a leader treats people always matters.
