Reflect Before You Plan

by Pia Jansson | Dec 31, 2025 | General

I’ll be at home with my journal on New Year’s Eve.

Not because I don’t like parties.

Because I love knowing where I’ve been and where I’m going.

My year-end ritual

Every December 31st, I sit down and review my year.

What worked.

What didn’t.

What I’m proud of.

What I’m letting go.

It’s not about being perfect or hitting every goal.

It’s about getting clear.

What clarity looks like

Clear on what drained me versus what energized me.

Clear on which decisions moved me forward.

Clear on what I want more of in 2026.

What most leaders skip

Most leaders skip this step.

They jump straight into goal-setting without understanding what actually happened in the last 12 months.

Then they wonder why they keep repeating the same patterns.

Why reflection matters

Reflection isn’t just looking back.

It’s creating the foundation for what’s next.

When you know what worked, you can do more of it.

When you know what didn’t work, you can stop wasting energy on it.

That clarity is your competitive edge.

A different way to end the year

So while everyone’s planning their party outfit, I’ll be planning my next move.

With a glass of champagne and a clear head.

Reflection

How are you spending New Year’s Eve?

If you’re feeling off your game or your leadership edge isn’t where you want it to be, the next step is at the top of the page.
