We’re living in a time in history where there’s chaos for many. Leadership is needed more than ever as where there’s chaos, there’s unexpected change. Depending on your unique situation, you may be riding high with possibilities or looking at what steps to take to pivot.
When you’re a leader that people trust and you can follow your natural instincts, anything is possible. For that to happen you need free reigns and support. In other words, trust that you can make it happen.
It’s easy to get into overwhelm when you’re managing chaos and feel like you can’t win so you start looking for a way out. Making a pivot when you’re in overwhelm can appear insurmountable. It’s so easy to loose sight of the value you bring.
What is leadership, really?
Leadership is sometimes a role that is assigned to us, yet true leaders inspire and create followers no matter what the title says. It goes back to the good ole saying “what will people say when you’re gone?”
I’ve worked with many leaders over the years and the ones I would still help out in a heartbeat are the ones that empowered me, placed trust in that I could deliver, and appreciated what I brought.
I’ve also worked with leaders that have killed the spirit of a company and its people, forgetting the impact that has on revenue, morale, and performance.
You need to be heard, seen and understood
As a leader you lead in different ways and just like a product has an ideal client, so does a company and its people.
When you find yourself in the awareness that you have hit the ceiling, not able to impact or make a difference with your hands tied, it’s time to move on.
No matter what the outer circumstances are, and this can be a hard one, the only thing we can control is ourselves. How you respond is on you.
When you look back at your career or life what were the triggers for you to take action?
Do you lead from the heart, head, instincts or by taking action?
You have unique perspective in how you see the world. I’m talking about your inner gold and knowing, the hardwiring that doesn’t change.
Do you listen to and act on your instincts and inner BS meter? Success is often created non-linearly so if you have had success I’d bet you have.
Some of your instincts are a result of life experiences, what you know works, yet as you continue to grow as a person, the world around you does too, so tune into the one constant thing – YOU!
You have unique talents. When you honor your needs and follow your instincts in a way that is natural to you, life works. It’s that simple.
So before you jump ship assess what’s working, what isn’t, and what you would like to see more of in your next leadership role to avoid creating more of the same.
Step into the leader you’re here to be. You’re unique, never forget that. Change starts with ONE step, one choice, one moment at the time.
