The Leaders Who Last

by Pia Jansson | Jul 2, 2026 | Leadership

The leaders who last aren't always the ones working the hardest.

They're the ones who figure out how to sustain it.

This week, many people will step away for a few days. And if you find yourself unable to fully disconnect, that's worth paying attention to.

What they have in common

Over the years, I've noticed that the leaders who build something meaningful over the long term have a few things in common.

They know what they're naturally good at and spend more time there.

They protect their energy because they know it affects every decision they make.

And they surround themselves with people whose strengths complement their own.

They're not always the busiest person in the room.

They've learned the difference between pushing through and building something they can sustain.

Long-term leadership

Long-term leadership isn't about doing more.

It's about understanding how you operate best and building your work, team, and environment around that.

If this week gives you even a small window to slow down, use it.

Not to think about what needs fixing.

To notice what's working.

What's one thing you've learned about yourself as a leader that has made the journey easier?

Ready for your next step? It is waiting for you at the top of the page.
